Important information for TMCC professionals

In memory of Julie Muhle

Julie Muhle

We were all saddened to learn that long-time TMCC professor and TMCC-NFA member Julie Muhle lost a years-long battle with cancer last month. Her passing shocked so many because most of us weren't even aware she had been sick. That's because Julie's infectiously positive personality never surrendered to the challenge that confronted her. We were all better for being associated with her. We offer our deepest condolences to her family, especially our coworker, Jamie.

TMCC will host a celebration of Julie's life from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, February 28, in the student center. A scholarship in her name is being set up by the TMCC Foundation.

 COLLECTIVE BARGAINING

TMCC-NFA survey to gather feedback for collective bargaining preparation

All rank-and-file faculty in TMCC's collective bargaining unit are asked to complete a comprehensive survey that will be arriving in their campus email early next week. The feedback gathered from the survey will be analyzed by the TMCC-NFA Collective Bargaining Council to prepare proposals for the upcoming contract negotiations.

The survey is just the first step in our efforts to gather faculty input. Starting in March, the union will host a series of faculty forums for additional feedback. Besides open forums for all members of the bargaining unit, individual events will be also be held for specific constituency groups, such as administrative faculty, librarians, and counselors. The TMCC-NFA contract applies to all rank-and-file professionals at the college and we welcome input from all of you, regardless of NFA membership.

Please watch for the email from SurveyMonkey in your campus email next week. Responses are confidential and will not be made available to the college administration.

 SHARED GOVERNANCE

Volunteer sought to represent TMCC-NFA on Planning Council

TMCC-NFA is looking for a volunteer to serve as our representative on the College Planning Council. Mark Maynard, who has served in that role for the last 18 months and provided outstanding reports to faculty on the Council's activities, had to step down due to a teaching schedule conflict.

The Planning Council, which touts itself as the "representative internal shared governance team for the College's planning efforts," generally meets on the third Monday of every month from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. It is chaired by the college president and is the group that has approval authority over campus policies and planning decisions.

If you are an NFA member wishing to get more involved in the shared governance process at TMCC, please submit your name to Jim New as soon as possible.

 ADVOCACY

Search for the next TMCC president officially opens for applications

ACCT Searches, the national firm hired by NSHE to conduct the recruitment and preliminary screening of applicants wishing to become TMCC's next president, has posted the position profile and begun accepting applications. Although the position will remain open until filled, the initial deadline is March 10th.

The profile, which was approved at the February 5th meeting of NSHE's ad hoc TMCC President Search Committee, sets minimum qualifications as a master's degree, progressive responsibilities in a senior position in higher education, teaching experience, budget and resource management, and experience working with marginalized students. The profile is student and community focused.

Representatives from ACCT Searches expressed confidence that the process can be completed in time for a new president to be selected before the end of President Hilgersom's current contract, June 30, 2025.
